For English class we do grammar Monday-Wednesday each week. Then on Thursday and Friday we do writing. We have been working on the writing process the past several weeks.
I had hoped to avoid being "stuck" to a process because I am wanting to do different types of things that won't follow the pattern as much. But after trying most of the first quarter I realized that was a dumb first-year teacher decision and reconcilled myself to a process.
It has helped give the kids some continuity but at the same time they sometimes get stuck in a rut of what "has" to come next. Sometimes the teacher says they should do certain projects differently and that throws a wrench in the whole workings of class! Silly teacher! ;-p
I did make giant paper pencils to help us learn and remember the steps and what we do during each one. They also provide wall decoration for my room :-)
