Welcome to Guam!
We arrived on Thursday evening (our time, which is currently 15 hours ahead of Illinois) after a L-O-N-G trip! 4ish hours from Chicago to Houston, 19 from Houston to Guam via Tokyo.
I met Kristen, Jessica, Cathy and a girl named Joy in Houston. The 5 of us went the rest of the way together.
It was one of the coolest flights entertainment-wise Ive ever beeon on! Each seat had its own touchscreen TV with games, TV shows and movies. Personalized entertainment- I could get used to that!
The principals from HCA met us at the airport and got the 5 of us with all of our luggage delivered to the appropriate apartments. I was overwhelmed by the food shower they had left for us! I knew they would probably have some basics but I think we could live for a month on the food they bought us!
Friday we had a tour of the school and got to see our classrooms. I have a classroom!!!! Yay!
Saturday a couple of us went to Kmart with my mentor teacher and got some things we had already realized we needed. Then to the Marble Slab (like Cold Stone) where I got Avocado ice cream with mixed nuts. It was good- really!
Sunday we had our first services with our new church family. It was different, of course, but the Lord is reminding me that different doesn't mean bad! Sunday morning services are streamed live over the internet if anyone is interested. Go to hbcguam.com and you will find it in the right hand corner. During the week it counts down to the service and then had a "watch now" button when the service starts. If you are lucky you might actually get a camera pan of my smiling face :-)
The week has been full of inservice meetings and getting my classroom ready for school. Still a LOT to do and figure out, but I know the Lord will give me strength. My room is coming together slowly, curriculum more slowly. But my mentor and other grade level teacher have been wonderful. Exciting times! Only one week until I will be greeting my (at last count) 22 students and starting in on the adventure of teaching!!
